Harry the Dirty Dog

by Gene Zion

A dog who loves everything except baths runs off before bath time — and has to get very dirty before anyone will believe he's theirs. Read aloud by Betty White.

The Most Magnificent Thing

by Ashley Spires

A girl sets out to build something magnificent with her best friend, a dog. It doesn't work — again and again — until a short break helps her see the project differently. Read aloud by Olivia Munn.

Ask your grown-up: Ask your grown-up: what's something you had to try more than once before it worked?

Need a Little Kindness?

Need a little kindness?

A small message, for kids and grown-ups alike.

Reading Together at Home

  • Reading the same book for the tenth time isn't a rut — repetition is how kids build real confidence with a story.
  • Let them "read" a familiar book from memory, even if they're not decoding the words yet. That's real pre-reading practice.
  • Before turning the page, ask what they think happens next — guessing is a comprehension skill, not a distraction.
  • Point at the pictures as much as the words. At this age, the pictures are doing a lot of the storytelling.

Storytime here draws a crowd — it's worth checking the calendar and arriving a little early.

Story of the week rotates on a school-week schedule and currently features titles suggested for our PreK, TK, and Kindergarten families. As Mission Bay School grows a grade each year, this page grows with it.
